There are so many things on my wishlist right now (for those of you who haven't noticed, there's now a Wishlist tab on the top menu bar, and I update it almost daily.) Realistically, my budget simply can not keep up with my ever-growing wants, and I refuse to even try. I will not veer from my self-imposed monthly limit. One Shoulder Prom Dress

I am fortunate enough to not have had to start my life out with debt hanging over my head. I have no student loans to repay, no car payments. And no credit cards. I have a debit card linked to a checking account, into which a fixed amount of money goes in every month, and that is the money I allow myself to spend on, what I must admit, are non-essentials. I won't go into numbers and figures, but I'll tell you something I do know from first-hand experience. Even when I was "constrained" by a monthly budget three times what it is right now, there were just as many things on my wishlist I couldn't afford. 

It's been a hopping month over at Meri Vintage! Items have been flying out of the shop - this has certainly been the most busy month ever since we opened this spring. Check out the heart-meltingly amazing 1950s prom dress above. I'd give anything to squeeze into this beauty, but alas, it's in the shop for you to enjoy.

Leah and I have both recently added some new items, and sold a few of our faves. Even it's horribly depressing that we now live in different cities, this has greatly helped the merchandise selection in the store! We can now cover double the territory without depleting all the usual haunts. We've had a busy busy summer and fall here at Meri Vintage! What have we been up to, you ask? Well, Ashley has been busy helping stage an original production at a theatre in Huntsville, while Leah is preparing for her Birmingham debut as Janet in Rocky Horror! Lots of exciting things a-happening here.

What's new at the store, you might ask? Well, for starters, I've been trying not to take everything wonderful we lay our eyes on. Hence, you have access to this fabulous Gunne Sax peplum lace sweetheart-neckline beauty:

Hello hello! It's been a while since we've posted (obviously). The blog also has a new look, thanks toShabby Blogs! Head over their way for some fabulous FREE blog templates. Love! Leah's blog is also rocking one of their designs.

What's new in our world? Well, not much, except that we're getting ready to part ways for a while. Leah's about to go back to college and open an exciting chapter in her life. It's so difficult to find friends with whom you're instantly comfortable, and friendship comes easy. We're like that. So, I'm obviously sad to see her go, but happy to be visiting a great friend in a unique, artsy, fabulous city.

On my side of things, Meri Vintage was tracked down by Omaha Mutual to be featured in their "aha moment" campaign! Specifically, they wanted to talk with my about launching an online photography business. I was happy to oblige, and met up with them during their stop in Huntsville. Dying. That's the stage I'm at in my life right now. I'm absolutely dying. Whilst blubbering around on Facebook last night, an ad pops up on the side bar of a She & Him photo. Didn't think anything of it. As I was scrolling through the news feed, I see Birmingham, AL to my right. I felt a sudden jolt in my heart. It couldn't be. There was no way. I view the entire ad and bam.

After screaming around my house for about five minutes I dialed Ashley. I'm nearly peeing myself telling her the news. We made it a definite. On Saturday July 10th, 2010 at 8pm Ashley and I will be boppin' along to the wonderful groovin's of Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward. The Secrets of Successful Mismatched Bridesmaids 3.0

Written in 2011 "The Secrets of Successful Mismatched Bridesmaids"  is by far our most popular article among you lovely readers. So, we've decided that every year we will give this post a make-over to bring it to the now. We are talking about the same old secrets plus a few new ones with new pretty examples, trends and inspirations! So here is an updated guide on how to let your girls wear different dresses yet still look like your team… your bridal party. Option No. 1: Same Color, Different Shades, Different Styles.

If you are looking for your bridesmaids to match your wedding dresses uk, the first, second and third images give you perfect examples on how to mismatch your girls' dresses in radiant color shades, while picture 4features a bridal party wearing soft shades of greenish blues - that besides fitting every skin tone -may as well serve as your Something Blue. Neutrals are so hot right now, especially when it comes to bridesmaid dresses. Neutrals give mismatched dresses a more unified look than any other color. Try them all in a short length like the photos #5 and #6,  to give you - the bride - a more distinctive look. Long nude dresses are the best choice for a black-tie event, or for a more edgy approach mix long and short dresses like pic No.7. Same length, same bouquet and same color of shoes are some of the elements these brides used to bring together their bridal party look.

Option No. 2: Different Colors, Same Style.

Some brides would like to follow the mismatched bridesmaids trend, but they still would like to choose their bridesmaids’ dresses. Option number two is for them.

Picking the exact same dress in the different tones of your wedding color palette looks amazing! If you want to keep your wedding color palette and bridesmaids' look within the same family of colors, check outpic #1 from Style Unveiled (I personally love this one) and Pic #2.  Or simply choose one of your wedding colors for each of your bridesmaids like the last bridal party.

Option NO. 3: Different Colors, Similar Style

This is basically an extension of Option number two, but in this case the dress is ALMOST the same. If you can't decide on only one style for your bridesmaids, you may also choose one style with two or three different variations and colors and let your bridesmaids determine what fits them best. The variation on the neckline is the hottest trend right now. This first bride (image no.1) decided to do all bridesmaids in different pastel colors, while the other brides (pic #2 and pic #3) chose two or three different colors and/or shades for their besties' dresses.

Option No. 4: Same Color, Different Style.

Give your bridesmaids the exact color you would like them to wear and let them came up with their own dress (photo no.1) Some brides decide to give their bridesmaids other indication like wearing lace - like inpicture no.2 and no. 3 - or even choose the exact fabric (photo #4), this helps them create a cohesive look between the bridesmaids and other decorative details of the wedding. right now the hottest materials for bridesmaid dresses are sequins and lace (check out our post about that, right here). You can also pick a few variations of the same dress or choose a convertible bridesmaid dress (here are the options available out there), like the brides in  image 5 and image 6.

 

Option No.5: Different Color, Different Style

If you like to be in control of what your bridesmaids wear on your wedding day, but you can't decide on only one dress, or you simply want to provide your girls with very stylish options that suite their personalities, you are going to love option No. 5. This super-clever bride dressed her besties with 3 dresses that she loved, they aren't similar style or similar color. In fact they are totally different, but they still look amazing. Option No. 6: Same dress, mismatched accessories. For a more settle mix keep the same dress for all your girls and mismatched the accessories. You have an infinity amount of possibilities to play with. Earrings, shoes, cardigans, rings and necklaces are just some alternatives. (image 1, image 2)

Option No. 7: Mixing Skirts and Tops

Option No. 8: Free Style

If you feel like your girls have a great sense of style give them the freedom to wear what they have on their closets. You can always provide some guidance about your wedding theme or colors to keep the look together. (pic 1, pic 2, pic 3, pic 4)
